The Executive Chairman, Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele (BSA), has called for an intensive campaign to raise awareness on cancer and urged for decisive and collective actions to prevent cancer and also support any victims.
Hon. Benson made the call in a statement in commemoration of the 2026 World Cancer Day, while also assuring of his administration’s commitment.
This year’s day is themed, “United by Unique”
“Today, on this World Cancer Day, I reaffirm our administration’s commitment to raising cancer awareness and taking decisive action towards prevention, early detection, and support for persons affected by the disease across communities in Imota LCDA.

“World Cancer Day serves as a strong reminder that cancer is not just a medical issue, but a collective societal challenge that requires shared responsibility. By sustained awareness campaigns, encouraging regular screening, and reducing stigma associated with the disease, we can save lives and support those currently battling the disease.
“Cancer is a major public health challenge that cuts across age, gender, and socio-economic status, and there is a need for continuous education and proactive healthcare interventions at the grassroots level. Many cancer-related deaths can be prevented through lifestyle changes, early screening, and timely medical attention.”
The council boss acknowledged the commitment of health workers in his council, which he said has given hope to many.

“Today, we commend all our healthcare workers in Imota LCDA for their tireless efforts in cancer prevention, treatment, and patient support. Your dedication continues to give hope to countless families, and I urge residents to take advantage of the available health services and to prioritise regular medical check-ups for early detection and effective management.
“In Imota LCDA, the Benson’s administration’s resolve is to sustain collaboration with relevant health authorities, advocacy groups, and partner organisations to strengthen primary healthcare delivery, intensify public sensitisation programmes, and promote healthier lifestyles within Imota LCDA.”
Hon Benson also urged all residents of Imota LCDA and the general public, “Let us stand together in solidarity with cancer patients and survivors, and through awareness, compassion, and collective action, a cancer-free future is achievable.”
